Once again, author and blogger Nicholas C. Rossis has provided some excellent marketing information for self-published authors.
Using information distilled from a 2014 survey by Smashwords, he summarises his original post, New Smashwords Survey Helps Authors Sell More eBooks, providing a clear explanation of what this means for sales for independently published authors.
Thank you to Nicholas C. Rossis for sharing and interpreting this information, and to Robert Sparkman for sharing this on Google+ and bringing it to my attention.

Thank you so much for your kind words – and for sharing my summary 🙂

Thank you for updating everyone on the results of your use of Amazon’s adverting program. I think it’s great that, rather than believing that you need to compete with other authors, you understand that an author’s work has to stand on its own merit, and that sharing such information is beneficial to both readers and authors. The Ethical Author Code that you abide by as indicated by the logo on your site is one that I find immensely logical as well as ethical. That you go beyond this code and do such time-consuming research and work to share the results with other authors is laudable.

Aw, thank you, Connie! It’s not a zero-sum game – ie. your success is not my failure. There’s plenty of readers for everyone. If one remembers that, they’ll realize that there’s no need for competition among us. 🙂
